Gaëtan de Séguin
A Journey Through Human Essence
Gaëtan de Séguin’s artistry delves into the human experience, capturing the essence of individuals within the vast expanse of humanity. His works are a testament to the complex interplay between the singular and the collective.
The Genesis of "J+"
The "J+" series was inspired by a tragic moment in history: the Charlie Hebdo attack. This event, among others, has shaped the thematic evolution of Séguin’s work. He reflects on the resilience and fragility of people as they navigate through their fears and hopes, creating a societal mosaic—a patchwork of life and emotion.
The Singular Within the Collective
Séguin’s art raises poignant questions: When a figure stands out from the crowd, what does it signify? Is it an intimate portrayal, a fleeting moment of recognition, or an exploration of individuality? His fascination with the human form is evident, as he draws bodies with a unique perspective—his very own "bonhommes."
An Eternal Optimist
Séguin’s optimistic nature shines through his work. Although he may not always be confident, his constant movement within his atelier reflects a man in perpetual dialogue with his creations. He offers viewers not just a visual experience but an auditory one too, capturing the voices and songs of those who forge ahead, much like Liberty leading the people.
Landscapes as Horizons
While Séguin also paints landscapes, these works serve to expand his horizons. His characteristic figures often find their way into these scenes, blending seamlessly with nature, contemplating and merging with their surroundings.
