Sanne Terweij

Sanne Terweij (Amsterdam, 1984) creates mesmerising wall objects that unite classical craftsmanship with a contemporary vision. By mastering oxidation on copper and brass, she transforms metals into artworks that shimmer with light, colour and texture.

Each piece emerges from her unique alchemical process, where chemical reactions meet artistic intention. Oxidation, often considered deterioration, becomes in her hands a way to add value, character and timeless beauty. Every work is one of a kind.

Her preference for bold colours, unconventional materials and meticulous craftsmanship gives her pieces a distinctive and recognisable identity. The small imperfections of the handmade process add individuality and soul.

Terweij’s artistic journey, rooted in creative entrepreneurship, led her to specialise in patina and ageing techniques. This expertise allows her to harness the unpredictable and create layered landscapes of oxidation that invite viewers to reflect on the fleeting beauty of time.

Her works have found their way to collectors, designers and galleries worldwide, and in 2022 she received the Rising Talent Award by Maison et Objet, affirming her position as an artist to watch.
