Fernand Kayser (born 1991) is a contemporary artist from Mulhouse and a founding member of the collective Le Schlager, alongside artists Yrak and Sven. Based in the former industrial site La Mer Rouge, the group has transformed their studio into a vibrant hub of creation and collaboration, working across murals, wood, metal, tile and plastic.
Kayser has developed a distinctive painting practice that grew out of his early work with spray paint and now embraces brush painting with a bold, layered style. His imagery fuses punk culture, bad painting and free figuration into dense, rhythmical compositions filled with symbols, dreamlike figures and totemic objects. Drawing from music, cinema and subcultures, he elevates underground influences to the level of contemporary art while inviting viewers into an immersive, slow process of discovery.
His work has gained increasing visibility through both collective and individual projects. In 2025 he realized a monumental public mural on rue de Bâle in Mulhouse, a landmark artwork that pays tribute to his hometown and celebrates its cultural vitality. He is also actively represented by respected art establishments, which confirms his place as a significant voice in today’s contemporary painting scene.
