Rough Night

Simon De Clercq

48 x 58cm

Available

Simon De Clercq is a Belgian visual artist currently studying Fine Arts at LUCA School of Arts, where he develops a practice situated within graphic arts and drawing. His work integrates cinematography, script, photography and a range of printmaking techniques, resulting in a multidisciplinary approach that reflects both technical exploration and conceptual depth.

Operating at the intersection of image and experience, De Clercq’s practice engages with both personal and societal dimensions. His method is deliberately slow and attentive, using drawing, text and observation as primary tools to reveal what often remains unseen. Subtle forms of grief, processes of recovery and the presence of silence are central themes within his work, approached without spectacle yet with sustained sensitivity.

At the core of his oeuvre lies a commitment to deceleration and nuance. In contrast to a culture driven by speed and visibility, De Clercq creates space for stillness and reflection. His work proposes vulnerability not as weakness but as a mode of presence and resilience, offering a quiet yet persistent counterpoint to dominant narratives of progress and urgency.
