Natalie Pleis, born in Ghent in 1968, has built an international reputation as a trailblazing abstract artist. After completing her studies in art history in Paris, she began working in furniture restoration, mastering marquetry and patinas. This meticulous attention to detail later evolved into her signature style of painting on wood, where she exclusively uses natural and metallic pigments applied with a palette knife.
Her works have been showcased in renowned galleries in Ghent, Nieuwpoort, Lille, and London, and her participation in major art fairs has earned her acclaim among collectors and critics. Pleis’s collections, including Depths of the Earth, Caelum, and Kintsura, highlight her ability to merge nature and abstraction into striking, textured compositions.
Collection 'CAELUM'
Caelum, meaning “sky” or “heaven,” is a poetic exploration of the tranquility of the heavens. This collection uses deep blues, blacks, greens, and metallics to evoke celestial beauty and distant horizons. The soft, luminous textures and contemplative titles like Ataraxia and Kalon underscore the serene and meditative qualities of this series. Caelum offers a captivating contrast to her earlier works, reflecting her artistic versatility and mastery of mood.
